BIRDS OF THE RANCH This
Webpage was established to provide folks with a listing of birds
observed from within the confines of The Ranch (identified
while standing inside the electric fence). If you spot a bird
not listed, please fill ou We follow the nomenclature presented in the Third Edition of National Geographic's Field Guide to the Birds of North America (1999). There are a number of other good bird books such as the Audubon and Peterson field guides. A new book on the Birds of the Trans-Pecos by Jim Peterson and Barry Zimmer (1997) is particularly applicable to this area. They have a Website that includes their useful seasonal distribution lists (linked herein by clicking on the scientific name, for distribution definitions click here). You may wish to take a look at the Southeastern New Mexico Audubon Society checklist of birds of this area and the detailed information available from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. You can see an enlarged photo of the birds by clicking on the thumbnail photo. Most bird photographers feel the need to copyright their photos so we have tried to steer clear of these photos and use only non-copyrighted photos. If we have included a copyrighted photo inadvertently, please let us know and we will remove it. We are very indebted to Dr. Brad Bergstrom for permission to use his great bird photographs.
